The problem here is that Lorre and company seem to be trying to retroactively fit a sweeter temperament into the middle of his most successful show in its ninth season, even though that show became famous for its aggressively cynical material.

In of the general tenor of humor, "Nice to Meet You, Walden Schmidt" felt pretty much like every other episode of Two and a Half Men that I've seen over the years: unrepentantly crude and/or cruel.
